Now a day, these touch screen technology has become the very important part of our day to day life. We barely blink an eye while scrolling through Instagram or liking a friend’s post on Facebook. But to understand how these touch screen works actually is important
So there are three components that work together to create the touch screen work and that are
- The touch sensor
- The controller
- And the software
The touch screen can be of three types
- Resistive
- Surface acoustic wave
- Capacitive
Resistive system
in this system two metallic layers become one connected which cause a change in the electric current where the event of touch screen is sense by the registers that is sent to computer controller for processing and can be used with finger and stylus.
Capacitive system
it use the layer of capacitive material which changes the amount of electrostatic charge at the point where contact has been made and it work only with fingers.
Surface acoustic wave
in this system the sound waves are sent across the surface glass and absorb when the touched with a stylus. The controller determines the location of the stylus based on their absorption. Then the controller take the information from the sensor and determine the exactly touch that has been place on the screen. Then all the information is sent back to the software, which reacts to the touch. Theatrically it looks like a long process, but it takes nanoseconds in real time.
Thus the touch screen is the assembly of both i.e. touch panel which take the input of touch and display device which shows the output. These touch panel is normally layered on the top of an electronic visual display of an information processing system. The display can be either LCD or OLED display while the system is usually a laptops, tablet, or smartphone.
Thus the user can give input or control the information processing system just simply through multi-touch gestures or just by touching the screen with a special stylus.
The touchscreen will allow user to interact directly with what is displayed rather than using a mouse, touchpad, or other such device.

- Game consoles
- Personal computer
- Electronic voting machine
- Point of sales system
- Personal digital assistants (PADs) and Readers
- Touch screen are also important in education system.
- Touchscreen are heavily found in medical field, heavy industry, automated teller machines (ATMs) and kiosks such as museum display or room automation where mouse and keyboard device are not allowed. Etc.
