Method of Wireless power transmission technology
-
Radiation or far-field technique
- in this method power is transmitted in the form of electromagnetic radiation or media like the microwave or laser beams. Using this technique we can transfer power or energy over longer distances, but there should be a receiver at another end to receive it. In laser power can be transmitted by converting electric energy into a laser beam that is then pointed at a photovoltaic cell. This mechanism is called power beaming.
-
Non-radiation or near field technique
- In the near field or non-radiation technique, power is transferred over short distances by magnetic field by using a technique such as inductive coupling between coils of wire or in a few devices by electric field using capacitive coupling between electrodes. This energy is transmitted between shortest distances and if there is no receiving device or absorbing device or material within their range then no power leaves the transmitter.

Principle of Wireless Power transmission
The conversion of energy either in AC or DC is the main principle of the Wireless Power transmission technology. This system consists of a transmitter device connected to a source of the power line which converts the energy to a time-varying electromagnetic field and one or more receiver device which receives the power and converts it back to required electric energy. In coupling, keeping the dimension of coil constant, at certain frequency two loops come in resonance and transfer energy.
Application
For near field energy transfer
- Electric automobile charging
- Consumer electronic
- Industrial purpose
Far-field energy transfer
- Solar power satellite
- Energy to the remote area etc.
Advantages
- It offers a high expandable range.
- It reduces the cost of electric energy used by the consumer
- It eliminates the use of wire, cable, and transfer towers.
- The losses during the transmission will be less etc.
Disadvantage
- The cost of construction initially is high
- For transmission, there must be a high-frequency supply.
- The strength of the field should be under the safety level.
