Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectors have both numbers and letters to describe them the letters stand for the physical characteristics of the connector. The number refers to the technology that moves the data and power from one to another.
USB C
- USB C term used for the USB connector. USB C is one in a long line of USB connectors. Before USB C we had no fewer than 10 different USB connectors all with different shapes and pin configurations. USB C is the latest version of USB hardware available. It no longer uses the 12-millimeter connector instead it uses the 8.4-millimeter reversible connector. If we have ever tried to insert a USB cord into another device we may have found that takes several flips to insert it correctly this is because there is a definite up and down on the cord. USB C doesn’t have the problem because it’s reversible with a USB C connector. This is handy a USB-C cord can supply considerably more power than the earlier version. These cords are also capable of transferring data at high speeds. It also has another useful feature for some USB-C devices is bi-directional charging which allows one device to change.
USB 3.0
- USB 3.0 term used for USB cable type. USB 3.0 can theoretically transfer data at 4.8 gigabits per second. The number associated with USB connectors indicates the speed with which the data is transferred from the device. Each new generation of USB technology allows for faster transfer speeds. USB 3.0 is the third major version of USB for connecting computers and other electronic devices. USB 3 ports on a device are the same as traditional USB 2 ports but they are colored blue however if we look inside a USB 3 plug we will see that in addition there are 5 contact points in the back to allows for the transmission of more data. USB 3 revised to become USB 3.1 and 3.2. the newest 3.2 generations are gen 1, gen2, gen 2×2 these versions are faster than the original 3.0 which is 10 times faster than USB 2.0.
